Nor’Easter Nemo

Nemo

So I hear the Northeast is experiencing a bit of a snow flurry. Nevertheless, the boys and I got bundled up for our morning adventure – gloves, scarves, and a Cheshire Cat hat for me – it was 34 degrees and cold.

While out and about we encountered a fellow parent. The expected mundane chatter about weather ensued. The frozen tundra blanketing the other side of the country came up.

“I guess they’re Finding Nemo,” I chortled. (I know, I’m sure there are PLENTY of terrible puns going around. But that’s what happens when the media nicknames a storm “Nemo.”) Continue reading

Most Likely to Inspire You To Change The World… even just a little

Wait – what? Who the hell is Jack?

It was April 2010. I was in the Mom/Baby unit. Room 39 I think (I was the guest of many variations of whatever number it was).

I was lying semi-upright in my newly prescribed bedrest position. Jon was with me. We were waiting for the doctor. I didn’t know when I’d get to go home. I’d been on that hospital third floor for four days and counting – ever since my “routine” checkup revealed that something was amiss, contractions were not Braxton-Hicks, and the muppets were in danger of making a very early arrival. Go Clean Your Room (or why am I frantically tidying the house before a playdate)

Living Room

Did you all have a nice weekend? We had a Superbowl Party. I won’t lie. It did turn in to a bit of a Bacchanalian fracas.

It was supposed to be a nice chill, laid back afternoon. Jon invited a couple friends over; I did the same. Jon set about preparing mozzarella meatball sliders, I focused on the important course of the meal – carrot cake and peanut butter brownies. It was a gluten-free bonanza, yo! (Lookitmee, all domestic-like.) Continue reading

Superbowl Sporting Extravaganza

The original football.

The original football.

It all started on the drive home from school Friday afternoon.

“GoGiants! Go Nin-ners!” echoed in stereo from the back seat of the MomMobile. What horrific ridiculousness was this! Continue reading

Top Gun (or It’s a Bird! It’s a Plane! It’s…oh. Yeah, it’s a plane)

Plane

I was sitting at my desk, plunking away at my keyboard like a good little worker bee when my boss appeared in my cube.

“Whatcha doing tonight?”

Bracing myself for the worst, but thinking if I had to work late I’d at least get to eat warm food that hadn’t been pawed by tiny peeps (because I was totally going to demand to be fed – corporate America and toddlers, not so different really), I asked why. Continue reading

The Psycho Quiz

Last week I had to make a return trip to the psychiatrist. Every now and then the docs like to re-evaluate my medication to keep me from going completely crazy. Since it was my first visit with this particular MD, I had to fill out the anxiety/depression questionnaire. Continue reading

Shawshank Redemption (toddler style)

Get busy living, or get busy dying.

From the moment they were born, the muppets made their intentions known – definitively declaring their decision to get busy living, regardless of the obstacles placed in front of them (like breathing). Continue reading

Disneyland Dumbo Double Dare

Disneyland_Walt and Mickey_01-19-13

I told you yesterday that GrammaJ and AuntJ will be running this fall’s Disneyland Half Marathon with me. (I did that mostly to publicly peer pressure them into *actually* signing up.)

I plan to complete the Dumbo Double Dare, which per the website:

If you think that a half marathon is just a walk in the park, put your endurance to the test and compete in the all-new Dumbo Double Dare! A 19.3-mile adventure held over two days, participants will run the Disneyland® 10K on Saturday, followed by the Disneyland® Half Marathon on Sunday. If you finish both races within the pacing requirements, you will be awarded the all-new Dumbo Double Dare medal in addition to your Half Marathon and 10K finisher medals.

The House of Mouse (or “YAY! GRAMMA!” )

Disneyland_CaliforniaAdventure_01-18-13

Yes folks, we went to Disneyland. HONEY! I’M HOME! With the exception of that rather unfortunate second birthday party appearance of “Mickey Mouse” I’ve always been a Disney girl. To me – it’s the happiest place on earth.

Although I would like to take this moment to clarify. Disneyland is a theme park. Not an amusement park. It is meant for the ethereal experience, not cheap thrill rides that go upside down and make you feel sick to your stomach. Continue reading
