Star of the Week: Search

Search Poster

Each week one member of Search and Destroy’s preschool class is selected to be STAR OF THE WEEK. It is only fair I share such an honor with you.

I remember the excitement of these things when I was their age. (I believe it was Special Helper back when I was a wee kinder.) We even got a special paper cut out badge pinned to our shirts. The muppets get a whole poster dedicated to their fantastic little persons. (And they get to be line leader, which is apparently a BIG deal in the 3-year-old class.)

The week of April 14 is “All About Search!” Continue reading

Behind the Music: Search and Destroy

Music

Destroy scampered toward me the moment I walked in the door. “Mommy! Let’s play music!” Because, when you’re three, you dance to the music in your own head – but sometimes it’s fun to rock out to the DJ spinning at the Lego table, too.

Don’t we all wish our life had a soundtrack? Continue reading

Broken: When Things Fall to Pieces

Granola Bar

After a winter with weather that never dipped below a balmy 70 degrees, the first quarter of 2014 rolled in with storm clouds close behind. The northeast sky was a cerulean blue dotted with puffy white cotton clouds. But the southwest city line wore an angry gray wall of rain.

The idyllic peace of ongoing California sunshine was about to shatter. Continue reading

Wordless Wednesday: School Photos

There was once a time when school photos were relegated to the abyss of a proud grandparents wallet. Now Mommy has a blog.

Book Review: I Just Want to Be Alone

I Just Want to Be Alone

When you’re poured into an airplane seat as you prepare to spend the next six hours hurtling across our great nation in a giant metal tube praying Bernoulli seriously had his shit together, sometimes you just want to be alone.

What better time than to pick up a copy of the hilarious new anthology, “I Just Want to Be Alone.” Continue reading

Stop Wine with the Septuagenarian

IMG_4067

PapaStavo turned 70 over the weekend.

In 1944, $1 was the equivalent of $12.43 today. Europe was in the throws of World War II. But in a small abode precariously situated in the province of Verona, Italy, a boy was born.

So I packed up the boys and headed south for the celebratory shindig. Continue reading

Life Lessons From the Center Seat

JetBlue_RouteMap

I recently had to travel for work. There was a trade show in Orlando.

(No, I did not get to experience Harry Potter World or the Magic Kingdom. I spent the week encapsulated in a giant bio-dome where I was a panelist on the riveting topic of telephones. Hmm, that sounds bad – let’s go with a conversation on how people communicate. Yes, I like that; given I have a master’s in communication studies it makes me sound like an expert.)

In any case, the opportunity to espouse my career knowledge required penance in the form of cross-country travel. Continue reading

Colors on the Walls

Flavorful-Colors-Image

Do you know what the color blue tastes like? I do.

Each morning at preschool drop-off, the boys take their seat at the classroom table and get their breakfasts out. One banana, one bag of Kix/Cheerios, and one yogurt. The yogurt is served in tube form under the on-the-go marketing campaign of Gogurt. I help open each item, kiss the kids, wave goodbye at the window and make my way over to my office. The Writing Process: A Blog Tour

to-do-list1

Duffy from SureD It’s All Good tagged me in a process post. (She called me one of her favorite bloggers – teehee!) Duffy is a kindred spirit, and mother of two preschoolers of her very own. In a rare divergence from poop discussions, she asked me if I’d be willing to take part in a “blog tour.”

This is basically where writers geek out with one another and talk about the who, what, when, where, why and how on our interpretation of the written word. So prepare yourself for a ride through the rabbit hole that is the wonderland of how my mind works. Continue reading

TechMom Tuesday: Let Them Eat Cake

TechMom

I write a monthly column over at AlliOSNews. It’s a techie site – extolling all the goodies and gunpowder on the Apple OS. (SHINY TOY!) I’m TechMom. And these are my stories on how technology is really used. This is what you must deal with, as I am a Silicon Valley nerd by day.

I’m well aware it’s Thursday. TechMom Tuesday is typically published the first Tuesday of every month, but this month your techie insights were delivered on the second Tuesday because my editor, Clinton, decided to go on vacation – Under the Sea, Little Mermaid style. I reserve the right to rant more or less as the technical goings-on, well…go on. Continue reading
