Welcome to Tech Mom Tuesdays!
It’s Tuesday, I’m a mom, and I’m a tech geek. I was thrilled when Clinton from AlliOSNews asked me to provide my weekly perspective. (I don’t think he quite knew what he was getting himself into – but the idea is to share how all my tech toys play out in the real world. Or at least my world.)
Here’s a sneak peek at what’s going on over there:
I decided a needed a new computer bag.
And because I’m a Silicon Valley mom – ok fine, I’m an addicted OCD mom – I cannot be without my devices for more than 5 minutes at a time. It’s like parents who put fuzzy stuffed animal backpacks on their kids. It’s really just a leash. But it looks huggable. This is what I needed for my computer.
So those big bulky I AM A COMPUTER BAG nylon/pleather suitcases were out.
Clinton sent me a link to the Louis Vuitton bag. It looked like a high-priced brown I AM A COMPUTER BAG (but with real leather). Next!
Now, here I must issue a disclaimer that I’m venturing forth into a review territory involving fashion. A subject upon which I am decidedly *not* an expert. This computer bag would be the sister accessory to the diaper bag I regularly carry. The diaper bag was chosen based on its highly desirable qualities of being hose-offable and large enough to stuff its innards with the crap of twin toddlers.
So clearly my new computer bag needed both form AND function.
This is an issue with many of the cuter bags. You *might* be able to squish a computer in there. But the whole point of having a bag is to transports my gizmos and gadgets to and fro locations I’ll be for hours on end. I needed a bag that could adequately carry my Macbook Air in its padded protective pouch, my shiny new iPad, AND their respective chargers/plugs/make-them-go trinkets.
And then I found a Kate Spade bag that was AWESOME. It’s an Armadillo! I know, right!
This of course let to more clicking, and ultimately the discovery that Kate Spade sells laptop bags. (And also other fabulous padded protective pouches.)
I ordered the Grand Street Janine. And it’s green. So it’s fun.
“No, seriously. I need you to take a picture of me hugging the bag. Yes, the bag I didn’t need. Yes, the green one. Because I wanted it. No, picture is for a review. On the blog. Yes, of the bag. Yes, the bag I didn’t need. But now I can tell others that they do need it. Yes I’m serious. Would you just take the picture?”
That’s not a picture of me hugging the bag. But I totally hugged it when it arrived. And I love you all enough to have shoved most of the toys off of the table before taking that picture. Because I’m classy like that.
A green boarskin embossed cowhide handheld bag with crossbody strap, 14-karat light gold plated hardware and exterior zip pocket (measuring 10.7″h x 13.7″w x 1.2″d), I am now stylin. Now, the bad news – I tried to find you a direct link, but it doesn’t appear to be available on the website anymore, so you may actually have to venture forth into a store to find it.
The bag is sleek and slim, yet still comfortably fits a computer, book, iPad, iPhone, organizer/planner (yes, I still use one of those), as well as an Apple power adapter and USB connectors in the exterior pocket.
It completely completes my costume of “grownup in real clothes,” which I pretend to be whenever leaving the house without my toddlers. (Shhh, it’ll be our little secret.)
See you next week – with more about the shiny objects that distract me!
I actually like it (plus the toys on the side). But please don’t tell me every Tues. is going to be Tech Tues. Can’t handle that + Winecone Wed!
It looks great, but I bet it was pricey!
It is GORGEOUS. I want one! To complete my grown-up-opera-singer-who-travels-all-the-time look, I suppose… well, I DO take my laptop everywhere with me! I bet it would even hold some music scores.
