CA Halloween 011

Another year, another adorable terrible twosome.

“Avengers Assemble!” And so, Captain America and Iron Man came together – protecting the streets of San Jose from possible enslavement of candy.

Captain America: Iron Man, we need a plan of attack!
Iron Man: I have a plan: attack!

A Silicon Valley Scary Story

img_4978

Have you ever found yourself staring down at your phone, mentally straining as you telepathically will the connectivity bars to light up – signaling a genuine working connection? I usually find myself muttering sarcastically, “If only I lived in a place ubiquitous with technology and connectivity!”

You may think such a concept synonymous with the Silicon Valley.

You would be wrong.

More often then not it’s less bars in more places (to autocorrect AT&Ts former slogan).

But then I go home.

I grew up in Southern California, deep in a canyon community between the San Fernando Valley hills. Privacy is delightful; even more so, I’m sure, in 1978, when no one found themselves huddled next to the guest toilet because there may be possibility one dot of cell service intermittently transmitted through.

Come with me, this Halloween week, and join me on a terrifying trip to the most horrifying of haunts a TechMom could find herself…

Disconnected. Continue reading

Happy Halloween: Disguises through the years (2015 Edition)

CA Halloween 011

Another year, another adorable terrible twosome.

“Fate rarely calls upon us at a moment of our choosing.” And so, Autobots Optimus Prime and Bumblebee took to the streets of San Jose sending a message to all other transformers: They are here. They are waiting. And they want candy. Continue reading

We’re Going to a Dead Man’s Party (or trick-or-treating the neighborhood)

I spent the morning convincing Destroy that Darth Vader was not a superhero to be sported on superhero day at school. (The boys’ preschool class isn’t allowed to do Halloween costumes.)

So when evening rolled around, Search and Destroy were eager to take over the world’s candy supply as the costumed duo, Prince Charming and Darth Vader.

Happy Halloween: Disguises through the years

Another year, another adorable terrible twosome.

In need of power, no longer through the screams of a child, but through the bouncing-off-the-wall energy  of 3-year-olds who have discovered that by going to door and simply looking adorable, neighbors will willingly hand over candy.

In the words of Destroy (after canvassing the street in search of porch lights), “I need to go home now. I need to go to my house and eat all the candy in my pumpkin.” Continue reading

When Creatures Come to Life (or Halloween 2012)

I picked the boys up from school. Search had soggy pants and a bulge at the bottom of his pants leg. Out fell his diaper. The kid had removed his diaper from WITHIN his pants. So this is how we were going to kick of an evening of costumes huh?

Mad skillz, yo.

The ghouls and goblins were getting an early start. Continue reading

Happy Halloween: Disguises through the years

The muppets went trick-or-treating tonight. I’m not sure who was more excited. (Ok, I’m totally sure – it was me.) You’ll have to stay tuned for the full adventurous recap.

But just for kicks – here’s a memory jog of disguises through the years (so far). Continue reading

Parties Pumpkins and Ponies

“This kind of blog just writes itself, doesn’t it?” smirked Jon as he was sent back to the store for last minute sherbet.

It was the annual Mama’s Halloween party. Ten small peeps (between the ages of 4 months and 4 years) descended upon my house to join the muppets in creating complete and utter chaos. A dirty dozen in full disguise. Continue reading
