TechMom Goes to Vegas

TechMomI write a monthly column over at AlliOSNews. It’s a techie site – extolling all the goodies and gunpowder on the Apple OS. (SHINY TOY!) I’m TechMom. And these are my stories on how technology is really used. Turns out, what happens in Vegas is now subject to whatever technology its posted on.

(I’m well aware it’s Wednesday. If you want TechMom Tuesday on Tuesdays, head on over to AlliOSNews for all things Apple. TechMom Tuesday is typically published the first Tuesday of every month; this month there are more because we went to Vegas and it amused me. I reserve the right to rant more or less as the technical goings-on, well…go on. The Disneyland portion of our trip shall be shared later this week.) Continue reading

A Year Gone By

1.12

It was 6 a.m. The phone rang.

I knew.

I answered.

“Grandma passed away last night.”

I didn’t cry.

I got the boys ready for school. I got ready for work. I followed my routine. It was Jan. 22, 2012. Continue reading

The Cornbread Stuffing Caper

Expiration for the Week

Ten years ago I was home from college, rifling through the refrigerator looking for sustenance. Hidden in the back corner I found a jar of Jet Puffed MarshMallow Whip. The expiration date was 1988.

My mother has never liked food. Cookies in our house were generally of the sugar-free, salt-free, cholesterol-free, sodium-free, fat-free, taste-free variety. AuntJ has oft visited the annals of San Fernando Valley familial homestead only to announce, “Ok. Let’s go get some actual food.” Continue reading

Vegas Baby, Vegas

Two weeks into the new year and we decided we needed a vacation. So we packed up the MomMobile and headed down to SoCal for a visit with my parents (who are apparently trying to recoup the costs of every vacation they take via the amount of tiny shampoos they return with – seriously, there are enough to last the muppets through college).

Vegas baby, VEGAS! It’ll be so money.  Continue reading

TechMom Tuesday: Constant Connectivity

TechMom

I write a monthly column over at AlliOSNews. It’s a techie site – extolling all the goodies and gunpowder on the Apple OS. (SHINY TOY!) I’m TechMom. And these are my stories on how technology is really used. There is so much technology to connect with ALL THE THINGS – so I kicked off my first post of the year with a little sampling.

(I’m well aware it’s Monday. If you want TechMom Tuesday on Tuesdays, head on over to AlliOSNews for all things Apple. TechMom Tuesday is typically published the first Tuesday of every month; this month is was the second week because of New Year’s Day. I reserve the right to rant more or less as the technical goings-on, well…go on.) Continue reading

Frat Boys in Training (or why growing boys cry when the milk spills)

Logan_Got Milk_11-29-12

Search and Destroy are fraternal twins. Once they go away to college, each will make his own individual decision on whether or not to join a fraternity – a group of persons associated by, or as if by, ties of brotherhood. Just in case, they’ve begun practicing for their pledge class. Continue reading

How Do You Do It?

AnnTaintor

I get this question a lot. The truth is I have no idea. We don’t know anything other than energy-intensive twin boys. JUST DO IT! <Nike swoosh. ©>

However, this response typically elicits a sympathetic pity smile.

So. The reality: Continue reading

Swimmin’ With the Fishies

Brothers_Aquarium_01-06-13

The first full weekend after the holiday break was upon us. After an interminable Saturday morning spent entirely indoors, I looked over at Jon and inquired, “What are we doing tomorrow? Because we’re not staying here.”

This morning we awoke to the dreary drizzly gloom of a winter rain. So our natural inclination was to pack up the boys and head south to (not-even-a-little) sunny Monterey for an excursion to the Monterey Bay Aquarium. Continue reading

Happy Birthday March of Dimes

March of Dimes Birthday

75 years ago today, President Franklin D. Roosevelt founded the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis – himself a polio survivor.

Today it’s the March of Dimes. That name was coined in the late 1930s (a play on the contemporary newsreel series “The March of Time”)as the org encouraged children to donate a dime for their annual fundraiser.  Continue reading

Today is a New Day

New Years

The years continue to turn. The days continue to pass. Time seems to slip away more quickly. And now we’re here in 2013.

The new year is a time of promises and change. I’ll lose weight, I’ll get rich, I’ll be better. Long before bloggers searched out time-applicable topics, folks were making lists of what they were going to accomplish in this particular cutout of the calendar. Continue reading
