Chicks Dig the Tough Guy

Who had January 11 in the pool for first injury?

The muppets were having an evening of backslides and nosedives down their new slide. Circle around, climb up the stairs – drive the spinning steering wheel a bit and head back down the slide. (Sometimes they break to bust a block tower.) Continue reading

Roomie Christmas

Twelve years. It’s been 12 years.

2000: You'd never know we're 12 years older. We look exactly the same right?

NaBloPoMo

I’ve hit a mental block; I don’t think I can be anyone else today. So here’s a little bit of me.

What’s the opposite of, “Did you miss me?” It’s probably, “Are you sick of me yet?”

You’ve probably noticed (since I know you all eagerly read this blog first thing every morning) that, for the past month, there has been a post Every. Single. Day. Continue reading

18 Months and Counting

It’s been 18 months.

Either I mistake your shape and making quite,
Or else you are that shrewd and knavish sprite
Call’d Robin Goodfellow: are not you he
That frights the maidens of the villagery;
Skim milk, and sometimes labour in the quern
And bootless make the breathless housewife churn;
And sometime make the drink to bear no barm;
Mislead night-wanderers, laughing at their harm?
Those that Hobgoblin call you and sweet Puck,
You do their work, and they shall have good luck:
Are not you he? Continue reading

Communication Confusion

Several months ago, I was enjoying a lovely large glass of wine with several fellow mamas while upwards of 20 sub-3-year-olds ran wild around us. (They were mostly the reason us moms had the wine.) Suddenly a rogue toddler broke from the pack, marched up to a mom-like woman, and began babbling.

“Sorry sweetie,” said the nice lady. “I don’t speak toddler.” Continue reading

Well, we’ve made the grade. It may be hard to believe, but the muppets started school today. I know what you’re thinking. You’re thinking, “School? Already? Are they even a year old?” Continue reading

School Tomorrow

Remember all those posts about the NICU? And how tiny the muppets were?

Well, no post tonight. I’ve got to get them ready for their first day of school tomorrow! (Ok, it’s the Toddler class…but work with me people.)

Stay tuned for details 🙂

Transition to Toddlerhood

My demarcation line between “baby” and “little boy” has always been toddlerhood. Toddlers are WAY bigger than babies. They’re like little people.

Well, look how far we’ve come from Tiny. This morning I found myself grunting as I heaved Destroy into his car seat – such typical mom behavior that I couldn’t even fathom a year ago. Last year, after the cause celebres arrived home, I could write a blog post with my laptop on my lap (shocking place for it, I know) and have Destroy lying on my chest – with no feelings of overcrowding or “don’t burn the baby with a hot electronic device.” Continue reading

The Holy Dipping

Almost a year and a half into their young life’s adventure, the muppets were baptized today.

I was raised Catholic (and well educated by their Marianist and Jesuit relams – high school and college). I was baptized at St. Bernardine of Sienna parish in Southern California. I received my first communion there, too, and I would have gotten confirmed there if it weren’t for a small argument about a retreat during my sophomore year. (I said I can’t go. They said fine, no confirmation. I said phooey on youy, I’ll do it elsewhere.) I was confirmed and married at Mission Santa Clara. Continue reading
