Best Day Of My Life (Chorus Remix)

This is gonna be the best day of my life
My li-i-i-ife
Oo-o-o-o-oo
This is gonna be the best day of my life
My li-i-i-ife

I’m never gonna look back
Whoa, I’m never gonna give it up
No, please don’t wake me now

A Little Bit Rock-n-Roll

Logan_Rockstar_05-04-15

“Mommy, I need the music.” It’s a refrain that’s part of our daily routine now. We get in the car, the radio magically bursts into commercial, and Destroy demands music. The moment a song begins playing, Destroy starts in with the questions: “What song is this?” “Who’s singing?” “What’s the band?” “What’s the singers name?”

(FYI – Shout out to Siri here for keeping me in the know, thereby preserving my status as mom with all the answers. Simply press button, ask, “Siri, what song is this?” and point phone.) Continue reading

Behind the Music: Search and Destroy

Music

Destroy scampered toward me the moment I walked in the door. “Mommy! Let’s play music!” Because, when you’re three, you dance to the music in your own head – but sometimes it’s fun to rock out to the DJ spinning at the Lego table, too.

Don’t we all wish our life had a soundtrack? Continue reading

Music takes me places. And I have a history of taking myself to the places where Barenaked Ladies are performing.

I’ve seen them eight times. But I am not a groupie. “Groupies sleep with rockstars because they want to be near someone famous. We are here because of the music, we inspire the music.” (Just call me Penny Lane.) Continue reading

Through the Eyes of a Child

The following conversation just happened:

Search: <singing> ITSY SPIDER! ITSY SPIDER

Me: Oh! Are we singing Itsy Bitsy Spider? <I start singing.>

Destroy: No, mommy. Continue reading

When Music is a Memory

Music does things to people. There’s a reason we all wish our lives had a soundtrack. (No? Just me? I feel mine should have a mostly piano backing.)

It can take you back to places from the past. The peppy up-tempo numbers can enhance a good mood or calm you down when you need to relax. Some songs make me think of certain people or situations. Continue reading

A Saturday Night With the Music of the Stan Kenton Orchestra

Sometimes, where words fail, music speaks. And the melodies are the memory.

It’s been three months since G.G. left us – I imagine her once again chasing rides in stylish cars and searching out the perfect tan at the water’s edge, while her once and again rock star pursues her. I miss her.

So on Saturday night, I got dolled up and headed out on the town. The Stan Kenton Alumni band was playing at Santa Clara – my own alma mater. (Ok, so the town was two miles down the road.) We were ready to take in some classic big band jazz. And relive the memories in the melody. Continue reading
