Transition to Toddlerhood
My demarcation line between “baby” and “little boy” has always been toddlerhood. Toddlers are WAY bigger than babies. They’re like little people.
Well, look how far we’ve come from Tiny. This morning I found myself grunting as I heaved Destroy into his car seat – such typical mom behavior that I couldn’t even fathom a year ago. Last year, after the cause celebres arrived home, I could write a blog post with my laptop on my lap (shocking place for it, I know) and have Destroy lying on my chest – with no feelings of overcrowding or “don’t burn the baby with a hot electronic device.” Continue reading

This is Mommyhood is the mother of a manic toddler. She’s an anxious, depressed giant book nerd. And her little hummingbird on crack (man, that nickname even beats the muppets) even did a stint in the NICU.
Teething Bites
The muppets gummy grins have given way to a number of pearly white baby chompers. The addition of enamel is a whole new experience. “There’s something in my mouth…”
And unfortunately, their favorite chew toy appears to be each other. This is a problem, since the Parent/Teacher Handbook for the preschool they’re slated to start next week, explicitly calls this behavior out as a nono. Biting is an expellable offense.

The Holy Dipping
Almost a year and a half into their young life’s adventure, the muppets were baptized today.
I was raised Catholic (and well educated by their Marianist and Jesuit relams – high school and college). I was baptized at St. Bernardine of Sienna parish in Southern California. I received my first communion there, too, and I would have gotten confirmed there if it weren’t for a small argument about a retreat during my sophomore year. (I said I can’t go. They said fine, no confirmation. I said phooey on youy, I’ll do it elsewhere.) I was confirmed and married at Mission Santa Clara. Continue reading

I went to Costco to pick up munchies to serve after the muppets baptism on Saturday. I just stopped by quickly after work; it’s on the way home.
