An International Thanksgiving

My godfather Mario (and GrampaStavo’s best friend – the two originally known in our family circle as “Two Gentlemen From Verona) stood among the 27 people gathered for Thanksgiving dinner. “And we, WE are the original pilgrims,” he announced proudly, raising his glass for a toast.

My dad swiftly interrupted. “And he’s the original turkey!” he shouted, pointing at Mario. Continue reading

Wineconed Wednesdays

It’s Wednesday.

Today is one of those days where I am really glad Wednesday is Friday. (Sorry to all you international folks. We get to gorge ourselves on turkey and pecan pie tomorrow.) Tomorrow is Thanksgiving. A day to share our thanks for everything we are blessed with in life.

Yet, sometimes (even if for the most trivial reasons – which btw is TOTALLY ok) we’re not thankful for *everything.* Continue reading

How the Muppets Were Saved

It’s time to play the music! It’s time to light the lights! It’s time to raise the curtain on…THE BIGGEST COMEBACK TOUR EVER!

You’ve heard of the Muppets right? No, not MY muppets – their puppety namesakes.

After more than a decade spent largely out of the spotlight, mostly doing whatever felt puppets do when no one is watching, Miss Piggy, Kermit the Frog, Fozzie Bear, Gonzo, and the rest of the Muppet repertory company are poised to return to the big screen on Nov. 23 in Disney’s splashy, star-studded musical comedy The Muppets. Marvelous Night for a Moondance

Do you feel a Nervous Tic Motion coming on? Take a moment and reflect on where you are and where you’re going. And please – share your own stories.

Do you ever sit back and take stock of your life – trying to recall the little moments that brought you this far? Do you ever wonder what life would have been like if you’d turned left instead of right?

Sometimes we forget the little things, how it is the simplest decisions that lead us down the twisting path of life. Continue reading

Dance Fever

This afternoon we headed up to celebrate the third birthday of one of the muppets’ girlfriends. It was a dance party.

Destroy was very excited – he practiced his moves all morning. DANCE DANCE! (Search wasn’t feeling all that great. He much preferred to cuddle.) Continue reading

I Swore I’d Never Do This

Here’s the deal. I work in PR before coming home to wow you all as a mommy blogger.

Most of you (with the exception of a few former-agency friends *waves at Edelman*) have absolutely no idea what I do. This includes the people who raised me, married me, and the vast majority of people who currently work with me. Continue reading

Communication Confusion

Several months ago, I was enjoying a lovely large glass of wine with several fellow mamas while upwards of 20 sub-3-year-olds ran wild around us. (They were mostly the reason us moms had the wine.) Suddenly a rogue toddler broke from the pack, marched up to a mom-like woman, and began babbling.

“Sorry sweetie,” said the nice lady. “I don’t speak toddler.” Continue reading

Infertility is a Bitch

A friend’s blog so aptly states Sometimes It’s Hard to Get Pregnant. “It’s hard to get pregnant. It’s hard to stay pregnant. And it’s hard to continue the journey.”

In college I was polka dotted. I visited approximately 732 dermatologists to figure out what was wrong with me. Finally, a doctor shared it wasn’t just an epidemiological stylistic body modification choice (although I do still bear the scars). It was an endocrine, autoimmune disorder. My body was attacking itself.

Goody. Continue reading
