NaBloPoMo

I’ve hit a mental block; I don’t think I can be anyone else today. So here’s a little bit of me.

What’s the opposite of, “Did you miss me?” It’s probably, “Are you sick of me yet?”

You’ve probably noticed (since I know you all eagerly read this blog first thing every morning) that, for the past month, there has been a post Every. Single. Day.

Am I certifiably insane? Am I desperately trying to self-promote in the hopes that publisher will “discover” me? Am I getting head start on how to heap the most amount of embarrassment on my will-someday-be-teenage children?

Yes.

But also, it’s NaBloPoMo. National Blog Posting Month. It’s a personal challenge. Commit to posting every day for a full month.

Sure, I can do that I thought. I signed myself right up and calendared an editorial calendar of post topics. (I’m OCD like that.)

But what’s the point?

In 2008 I ran the Nike Women’s Marathon. 26.2 miles. (Will not be doing that again.) NaBloPoMo is the equivalent of a writer’s endurance event. And I want to be a writer when I grow up.

Thank you for humoring me this past month as I’ve written about random things. Hey,  there’s a reason I call this space Stream of the Conscious – and it’s not just for the clever pun on my name.

It was hard. I have a life to cram a million things into every day. And unlike my previous marathon (although I have been running every day before writing these posts, does that count?) there are no tuxedoed firemen presenting me with jewels. But if I want to be a writer, I have to write.

NaBloPoMo has taught me dedication, determination and discipline.

Thank you for coming along with me on this journey. It makes it a lot easier when I think there are people out there who may take in interest in whatever topic I happen to blathering on about.

Today is also the last day of Prematurity Awareness Month, which will forever provide content for me to wax poetic about. Destroy looked up as Jon was about to take the tykes to school. “Bye!” he waved.

Fitting.

Here’s the deal. I’m going to keep writing. I’m going to keep telling my story. I’d love to hear yours too. I’m not going to keep posting religiously Every. Single. Day. (Because I don’t think they let people have computers in the white padded rooms.)

My goal is to continue sharing all the random stuff that makes me, well, me. And with my newfound focus…

Hey agents and publishers, let’s get me a book deal! Why don’t we set a goal to be in progress on that project by the time NaBloPoMo 2012 rolls around. Deal?

You heard it here first. And as my first gesture of goodwill, I’ll post a preview of Chapter 1 by the end of the year. Happy Holidays!

I shall now dramatically step away from my keyboard with a flourish. (And then scoot right back up to it to start working on work projects.)

NaBloPoMo. I win! I RULE.

    Tricia,
I have been routing for you and your blog since the beginning (Newberry Award, book deal, something!). Your writing is fabulous and often the highlight of my day.
    Thanks again for sharing.

First off, that will not be your last marathon. Just remember I have a request in storage since Nike was YOUR idea and request. 🙂 Secondly, you are AMAZING! There are few things I do every single day (these things have probably been written about by you via Search and Destroy in some shape or form), so the thought of writing a post every day is absolutely crazy. So THANK YOU for keeping us all entertained. But, sister to sister, have a glass of wine and enjoy a night off! xoxo

I do so enjoy your writing! And have admired your daily dedication, not realizing your blogging goal. ( I have twin grandsons, born approx. 6 months after yours, and they were 10 weeks premature.) Keep writing and I hope you do get that book deal. I’ll buy a copy for sure!
