I meant to write a recap of my weekend adventures yesterday. But then I got all excited about having my writing published in another location – even if it was a bit of a heavy subject. So today I thought we could all use a little bit of fluff.
And also, I’m avoiding the giant laundry pile taunting me upstairs.
Now, here’s a bit of insight into my world: comments are like blogger crack. Sometimes All the times it’s nice to be reminded that my words aren’t flailing about in a void of nothingness.
And then all of a sudden Kristen Mae from Abandoning Pretense (who actually reads my blog) named this here little blog one of her favorites as part of the current swirl of bloggy chain letters. And she left a comment on my site to boot!
Look folks – this is totally a chain letter. But unlike those that got sent around in my youth (Get off my lawn!) this one doesn’t threaten bodily harm and death to loved ones by not following through. Instead, it’s actually a fun way to learn about the quirks of your favorite blogger (because I’m totally a big deal now) and discover new authors you may not have realized were brilliant.
So. Why not. I’m in.
Here are the rules set forth:
- Thank and link back to the awarding blog.
Thanks Kristen! And y’all should abandon pretense and check out her obvious good taste for yourselves. - Answer seven questions.
Technically there were seven q’s provided. But I’ve answered a lot of questions. So many, that they’ve earned their own page on the site. So, for you’re question viewing pleasure, I bring you more than seven questions. - Provide 10 random factoids about yourself.
Because it’s all about meee! And hey – I can do random. - Hand the award on to three deserving others.
Kristen Mae changed this from seven to three. Because seven is too many. I’m with her. Gold, silver and bronze here peeps.
Random facts:
- I am a conspiracy theorist, paranoid and a hypochondriac. (I know you are all shocked by this. But I’ve got my eye out for those black helicopters.)
- When I was a toddler I scaled a linen closet, fell through a wicker basket and bit off the tip of my tongue.
- My first job was as Gymbo the Clown.
- My first crush was on Orel Hershieser of the 1988 Los Angeles Dodgers. (Can no longer miss episodes of Sunday Night Baseball on ESPN.)
- Fighter pilots are the epitome of cool. I would very much like to be one.
- My favorite author is Alexandre Dumas. The best book ever written is The Counte of Monte Cristo. (REVENGE!)
- My luggage was once stolen by Richard Chamberlain at Heathrow International. (I got it back, that’s how I know he took it.)
- The summer before I went away to college I drove my little Honda into a fence. The driver side windshield was impaled by a post. I was not beheaded. (It’s the little things, people.)
- I believe that when we die, St. Peter meets us at the Pearly Gates, which are located in a See’s Candy Shope. Then they open onto the beaches of Maui.
- I believe that zucchini and asparagus are a plague upon mankind. (I have sworn never to make my darling muppets choke them down.)
I have a rule. If it makes me laugh, it deserves to be shared. Chain letter/link-booster for blogs – whatever. Check out these sites – you may not have heard of them. So, without further ado, the next *THREE* recipients of the eminently prestigious Kreative Blogger Award:
Ninja Mom Blog: Her Twitter bio reads, “All my kids are still breathing. Award, please.” ‘Nuff said.
Honest Toddler: Comments from a little man “not a baby, not yet a big kid.” But mostly I’m convinced Search and Destroy have smuggled technology into the nursery and are scheduling posts out when their father and I aren’t looking. (See Random Factoid No. 1. And also, you haven’t heard Search’s maniacal laughter at nap and bedtime.)
Life with Jack: This is one of my favorite blogs, as its primary subject is one of my heroes. Jack was born at 23 weeks gestation. I found his story during my first stint on hospital lockdown. Never be constrained by normal; defy the odds.
And now, bonus sites to read!
Just in case you haven’t read them already, I’m sharing a list of my favorite sites. Sadly, I felt the need to disqualify them from the Kreative Blogger Award since these amazing writers all write for A Nervous Tic Motion with me. Read them anyway.
Confessions from the Crib: Kids, cats and chaos.
Random Thoughts From A Suburban Mom: Random musings from the ‘burbs. I, being a suburban mom, can totally relate.
Snappy Surprise: Life and longings of our token Canadian. Eh?
Taken Seriously Amusing: Strong opinions on work, life, science and the great unknown. He tells the tales of his Sisyphean pursuits with aplomb.
The Cubicle Views: Have you ever worked in a Dilbert cartoon corporate cube environment? This suburban dad does. And he bitches about it tells it like it is.
This is Mommyhood: Musings on life, parenthood, the good ‘ole days, and delicious recipes.
For even more amazing blogs to check out, take a moment to peruse all the BlogHer 2012 Voices of the Year honorees. You’ll laugh. You’ll cry. You realize that all of us may be batshit crazy, but most of us can tell a mean story.
Read blogs. Respond. Us writer’s go bonkers for that. Seriously.
Okay, if comments are like crack…here’s your fix. I found your blog because I’ve been following Life With Jack since my grandson was born a year ago @28weeks. I love your writting style (you’d love Flotsam) and love the everyday events of the muppets. I feel like I’ve found my very own club just for preemie families. Keep us smiling !
Thanks! I love Alexa at Flotsam too 🙂 (Was so happy to hear about her full term baby.) I’ve always said prematurity is a sorority none of us wanted to pledge. But we’re here – and I love following the stories too.
ok- I’ll comment
How have I never heard the wicker basket/biting off tongue story?!?
Awesome! Glad I could make you laugh and I hope to keep it up.
Your #6 Random Fact reminds me of my favorite movie and a quote within that always makes me giggle. I know you all know which flick this comes from:
Heywood: The Count of Monte Crisco…
Floyd: That’s “Cristo” you dumb shit.
Heywood: …by Alexandree Dumb-ass. Dumb-ass.
Andy Dufresne: Dumb-ass? “Dumas”. You know what it’s about? You’ll like it, it’s about a prison break.
Red: We oughta file that under “Educational” too, oughten we?
Random factoid #11: Another awesome movie. And a seriously kick ass book. And I’m with Red. You oughten.
I was thinking of the same movie – just watched it the other day – the best!! Dalia, can’t believe you haven’t heard the missing tongue story and Tricia, if I start reading all those blogs I’ll NEVER get off my butt the whole summer vacation!!
PS – one correction – the pearly gates open to KAUAI, not Maui
I have never been to Kauai. Who’s sending me?! (I’m totally open to sponsorships here…)
Thank you for the mention! And yes, always with the chaos 🙂
“Fighter pilots are the epitome of cool. I would very much like to be one.” Weird! My six-year-old has wanted to be a fighter pilot since he was two! He cried when we told him the F-14 Tomcat was retired. Like, really hard.
“My favorite author is Alexandre Dumas. The best book ever written is The Counte of Monte Cristo. (REVENGE!)” Double-weird: I’m reading that book RIGHT NOW. (!!!)
🙂 Thanks for the props. As ever I am thoroughly entertained.
