Winecone Wednesday – Space Squirrel Edition

Has anyone ever looked at you and said, “Just smile. If you smile, you’ll be happy. You can’t be sad with a smile.” This, of course, is bullshit. However, it’s always fun to find something that will genuinely make you smile.

Toddler Speak

Mahi Mahi was on the menu for dinner tonight. Both muppets chowed down in a serious teenage-boy-in-training fashion, while Finding Nemo played in the background.

PISHIE!

(Yes, I fed my children fish while their anthropomorphized dinner just kept swimming on the screen. I know. Mother. Of. The. Year.)

It’s crazy how big they are now. They’re like real little people. It’s just completely… Continue reading

Joe vs. The Volcano. Ok, fine. Me vs. The Laundry Pile

Auntie Beeca broke her foot. She was coming down the stairs, missed the final step and – like Mitch Rapp had been lying in wait – faceplanted on the landing as though she had been taken out by a sniper.

I can only assume she was doing a load of laundry. Because clearly, laundry will kill you. And also, breaking yourself on a load would be a great excuse to never do it again. “I…I just can’t. Laundry has literally broken me.” Continue reading

How to Tell You’re Raising Boys (of the toddler variety)

Disclaimer: I make no claims that the below apply solely to BoyParents. I’m sure these traits fit GirlParents too. However, I only have boys – so that’s how it’s getting labeled. Continue reading

How to Ruin Dinner in Six Easy Steps

To be fair, I was already a bit distracted.

I worked from home today. And after a lengthy webinar, spent pacing the perimeter of my office, I ventured forth into the kitchen for coffee. I desperately needed a recharge after talking to myself for an hour wondering if anyone was listening.

It was a whole Silicon Valley technological version of “If a tree falls in the forest…” moment updated to “If I give an online presentation and no one pays attention…”

I knew something was amiss the moment I crossed the living room threshold. Now, with two growing boys, I’ve smelled my share of special deposits. But this was unique. Continue reading

AlliosNews: App Review

We’re a technical family. The pending arrival of the copy and paste command was announced via Facebook (it was totally the cool thing at the time).

And, you know, blogging the little ones entire lives. Livin’ the Silicon Valley life, yo. Continue reading

Winecone Wednesday – Mustang GT Edition

There was a blue mustang convertible parked in front of my house on Friday morning. And I was headed to wine country.

Four on the floor and you oughtta hear the pipes ring
I jump behind the wheel and it’s away we go
Hey I drive too fast but she don’t care
Blue bandana tied all up in her hair, just sittin there
Singin’ every song on the radio

There is truly something to be said for flying down the highway under the hot summer sun. Mustang convertible, top down, 85 degrees outside and Foo Fighters Everlong playing on the radio. It kind of feels like freedom and fun. Continue reading

Chain Letter Link Awards

I meant to write a recap of my weekend adventures yesterday. But then I got all excited about having my writing published in another location – even if it was a bit of a heavy subject. So today I thought we could all use a little bit of fluff.

And also, I’m avoiding the giant laundry pile taunting me upstairs.

Now, here’s a bit of insight into my world: comments are like blogger crack. Sometimes All the times it’s nice to be reminded that my words aren’t flailing about in a void of nothingness. Continue reading

XO Jane – Post Partum PTSD

It Happened To Me: I Had Post-Partum PTSD. My twin boys were born by C-section at 27 weeks. I was desperately hoping for a third trimester, but failed.

Apologies for a post that is a bit of a downer on Father’s Day. But the goal of this blog (and all the other articles I write about parenting) is to celebrate our adorable muppets – and all we have gone through to get this far.

Today xoJane, an online women’s magazine, published my story. Continue reading
