Why My Kids Will One Day Tell Their Therapist Mommy Never Loved Them

Happy Valentine’s Day.

This holiday isn’t really my cup of tea. Sweethearts taste like chalk and the over-abundance of cherry-flavored lollipops remind me of children’s medicine. Overpriced wilted roses and an exorbitantly priced prix-fixe menu with funny foods I don’t understand. (Give me a summer ballgame with a Dodger dog any day.)

I mean really, a day should not have so much pressure attached to it – especially when it doesn’t even come with a day off work! I do like the chocolate though. I would be happy to share yours. Continue reading

An Evening Out

Remember back in the day when Friday nights were going out night? Getting all dolled up and heading out at 10 p.m. – to see what the night had to offer?

Yeah, me neither. In any case, I went out last night.

It was a long week. And I was hungry. So I proposed a date to the Outback, and was escorted by four fabulous Stream gentlemen. I gracefully clambered from the front of the Pilot into the back of the car to land clumsily take my place between the car seats. Upon arrival, Jon freed the boys from the child-lock secure doors and I (once again with the grace of a beautiful ballerina – at least in my head) twisted myself under the seats to slide out onto the asphalt. Babies, Berries and Baths

US Weekly

Tuesday night was another frantic muppet caper. I closed down my cubicle at work and ran for the hills – also known as driving across the Silicon Valley at high speeds to pick up the boys on time.

Search and Destroy greeted me at the pickup gate with giant grins and outstretched arms. Who could resist such heart-meltyness. I hugged them both. In my white blouse. After their afternoon snacktime. Which happened to be blackberries.

This may explain Sarah Michelle Gellar’s Golden Globes outfit… Continue reading

Evil Knievel and the Peanut Butter Sandwich

No good ever came of a phone call that began, “Don’t worry, they’re okay.”

“Destroy’s had a rough morning…” Miss Stephanie continued. “I felt that I should call and warn you before you came to pick him up as he looks a bit worse for wear.”

I forced myself to hang onto the phone as I dropped my head onto my desk. “What happened?” Continue reading

Secret Agent Men

I write this in the midst of living room rubble.

The toy box exploded. There is mysterious fuzz embedded in the carpet, lining a crushed layer of Cheerio dust. Pages from what I assume were once books are flung far and wide. And the vehicles sit askew from where the muppets laid down their bikes – tricycle wheels spinning harmlessly head over heels. Continue reading

Super Sale

The time of year has come where colleagues are canvasing the cubicle aisles to peddle their children’s schoolyard wares. Fundraisers for trips, school perks, books, equipment or uniforms.

Bake sales, magazine subscriptions, cookie dough, gift-wrap, coupon books, auctions, scrip, collecting empty cans…kids pitching their school’s fundraising requests seem to come in every shape and size. (Remember the different size and style Weeples – those fluffy things with googly eyes glued to plastic feet – that were offered as prizes based on the amount of money brought in?) Continue reading

Lessons Learned

I’ve been told I was a bit mischevious as a small person – determined, independent with a wee bit of a stubborn streak. But come on, does that picture say anything other than sweet and innocent little angel to you?

This evening I learned the past is never far behind us… Continue reading

Sign of the Times

As I started to write this post, I took a look back at where we were last year. Obviously, the muppets were very tiny and our journey was just beginning. At the time, just over a week into their little lives, we were already fiercely focused on food. Continue reading
