Wordless Wednesday: A Little Bit Rock-n-Roll

They’re twins. So they’re exactly alike, right?

Terrors in the Night

Nightmare

The screaming began right around midnight.

“MOMMMMEEEEEEE!!!” It continued to gain in hysteria, growing louder and louder until a trembling child was pooled in heap upon the newly displaced dog bed.

(The dog has recently demonstrated a serious phobia of smoke alarms. I’ve recently decided to start cooking in a healthier lifestyle adoption. Kid and dog were likely going for a quid pro quo kinda thing.) Continue reading

Communication Confusion and When 94 is a Flunking Grade

Caden_Sick_11-26-14

I was just finishing up a project after spending the wee hours of the morning driving down to Gramma and Papa’s house. I signed off, “Without further ado…”

“Don’t you mean adieu?” inquired Gramma J.

Did I? Ah, mother. “When you depart from me sorrow abides and happiness takes his leave.” (Apparently from Shakespeare’s “Much Adieu About Nothing.”) Perhaps this called for a song to appropriately end a conversation of such foolish or unnecessary talk. “So long, farewell, auf Wiedersehen, adieu. Ado, adieu, to yieu and yieu and yooo…”

Importance of the Arts

Summer fine arts

Recently I overheard a conversation deriding the arts.

I sat unassumingly minding my own business when words began raising my blood pressure as they seemingly grew in volume. A loud opinionated individual was ranting to someone about the waste of theatre and how all the elitist people think they’re doing something worthwhile.

Spoiler alert: They are. Continue reading

Search Engine Optimization and Search Term Algorithms

I write this blog about my once tiny twin boys. Who reads this blog, you ask?

Below are selected search terms that have led people to my site in search of…something.

  • street price for an ounce of smackaroo?
  • boobs stream
  • bloody birthday cake
  • is this “stream of consciousness” talking typical of 4-year-olds?
  • are we done here
  • boy bully poop
  • saving daylight zombie
  • lockdown lollipops
  • hide and seek, grown up style. wanting to hide needing to be sought
  • stream of consciousness ” on and on and on little boy name wilford
  • puking pirate
  • nicu sucks

Well, that last one makes all the sense in the world.

In Judgment of Other Parents

hooker5

I think I’m supposed to begin this post with the cliché disclaimer of, “I don’t like to judge…” or “Far be it from me to comment on another parent…” but that’s exactly what I plan to do. So. Gird your loins – I’m about to get judgey up in here. Continue reading

How to Jump Start a Car

1-jumper-cables-blink-images

The hospital let me know that I was due for a blood draw. So bright and early Sunday morning (because I wasn’t foregoing breakfast a moment longer than needed) I pulled into the almost empty parking lot.

There was another car near the hospital’s front entrance. A woman was standing in front of her mid-90s green sedan – the hood wide open – looking frustrated and unhappy. I asked if she had help already as I hopped out of my own MomMobile. Continue reading

Fingerpaint Threatens Friendship (or this means war)

Logan_Grrr_06-28-14

The mercury stretched toward 90. We were planning beach trip to celebrate the second birthday of the pixie stix.

The boys were outside playing while I packed up our gear. Suddenly I heard an ear-piercing shriek calling my name. Search looked up at me, sidewalk chalk streaked across his face like war paint. Red ooze dripped down his arms like blood. Continue reading

TechMom Tuesday: Targeted Baby on Board?

TechMom

I write a monthly column over at AlliOSNews. It’s a techie site – extolling all the goodies and gunpowder on the Apple OS. (SHINY TOY!) I’m TechMom. And these are my stories on how technology is really used. This is what you must deal with, as I am a Silicon Valley nerd by day.

I’m well aware it’s Wednesday. TechMom Tuesday is typically published the first Tuesday of every month, but this month your techie insights were delivered a week late because last week was a holiday week. I reserve the right to rant more or less as the technical goings-on, well…go on. Continue reading
