I got a message from my cousin yesterday – she’d found The Muppets: The Green Album. Along with deliciously caffeinated overpriced coffee-like drinks, Starbucks is also selling hipster music albums these days.

How could I pass up THE MUPPETS? “An assortment of today’s top artists put a twist on familiar selections from The Muppet songbook.”

Yesterday, after dinner (a full body tortellini with red sauce experience) we headed to the living room for a late night (6:30 p.m.) nightcap of milk. Being as this is the weekend, we decided to have a raucous Saturday night. You know, like the days of my youth – rocking out in the city dance clubs till the wee hours of the night. (Ok, fine. Rocking out to my CD of choice as I got ready for bed by 10 p.m.)

So we loaded up the stereo system with The Green Album and hit play. As if flashing back to their pending arrival, our home was filled with the music of the muppets’ theme song. The boys lit up. Music!

It’s time to get things started The second song on the album is the quintessential Muppet Song. The Rainbow Connection. Search paused. He looked up and a grin spread across his little face. He began singing along. He stood up and toddled across the room – arms outstretched toward me. Plopping himself in my lap, he looked back up at me and began singing along.

SWOON! (Dramatic feint with hand across head.)

Destroy was leaning up against the couch, swaying back and forth. He held his milk bottle out to the world – the concert lighter for the toddler set.

As the track changed, The Fray began to rock the beat. Destroy began bopping. He bounced across the room, clapping his hands – ultimately reaching out to feel the pounding bass on the speakers. I picked Search up and we danced over to his brother.

There’s a new hotspot in town. And we were it – rocking out at the hottest dance club around, Chez Muppet.

Track 3 is a fast-moving beat. And true to the title, we were movin’ right along. Getting’ down and jiggy wit it. (Stop laughing at me.) The muppets were twisting and shouting. Search was rocking faster and faster on his Little Tykes police motorcycle. Destroy was now dancing upon the figurative bar – in this case a primary colored toddler slide. (I know, you’re shocked. Destroy climbing something?)

Destroy was stomping on his dance platform, clapping to the beat. Search continued to rock out; he stood on his bike as he rocked.

We were about to literally rock and roll.

Someday we’ll find it, the rainbow connection. The muppets, the dreamers and me.

I got a message from my cousin yesterday – she’d found The Muppets: The Green Album.
