How Did Your Blog Get Its Name?

One of the most common questions posed during my recent New York adventure was, “How did your blog get its name?”

The title of a blog is your first introduction – it can be simply a name or a reflection of the theme within. By design, a blog is often named before the content even begins flowing. Because we need a place to call home for the future of our words.

This blog began as an accident. The original intent was simply a place to post cute pictures. We were expecting twins. So StreamDoubleTrouble was registered with WordPress.

About a year ago a friend noted my writing seemed very stream of the conscious.

BINGO!

One of these days I’m going to change the address so it doesn’t redirect. But I’ve been putting that off because of the high likelihood I’ll blow up the whole blog.

And now. For the totally buried lead.

About 10 years ago I made two goals. I wanted a window office and I wanted to be published.

I work in the Silicon Valley, where it’s trendy to have everyone work in a cube. So we’ll just go ahead and check that box as accomplished because when I work from home, it’s totally next to the window.

Published. I’ve got a thesis printed and bound, collecting dust in the university. My Voices of the Year honored post will be part of an anthology ebook. My witty quippy one-liners were featured in the March issue of Redbook magazine.

Someday I would like to see Tiny added to that list.

There may be a few less diatribes on here from me. I will be taking my blog writing down to Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Winecone Wednesday’s will be monthly for the time being. And you’ll still be able to find me over at AlliOSNews for TechMom Tuesday on the first Tuesday of every month.

In the interim, I’m going to get busy living or get busy dying. <Dramatic swoon>

Ok, I’m going to finish my book. I’m going to write query letters. I’m going to find an agent. (You hear that universe? Just in case that Secret shit works.) But I am going to finish the book.

Blogging provides instant gratification. I write. I hit publish and you my adoring fans are able to reply via blogger crack comments immediately.

But just think how giddy I’ll be on my book tour.

(Stop laughing. Just smile and nod at my delusions of grandeur thankyouverymuch.)

Just think how giddy I’ll be when I’m published. And I promise not to withhold any muppet adventures from you. You just may have to wait an extra day to read about them. (I’ve got a doozy for Wednesday.)

Overall, I am aware that this is a very self-centered post. (Because putting my life out there because I think people are interested in my every story isn’t self-absorbed at all!) I also recognize the irony of writing a post to say there will be fewer posts.

But the goal here is two-fold:

1)    Let you know that I’m still here. I’m not shutting down the blog. I’m not withdrawing. The stories aren’t drying up. (I have toddlers x2 – that’s posting GOLD.)

2)    Publicly announce my book writing goals. If I write it – they will come. Right?

So how did my blog get its name? Long story short – Stream’s my last name. But what fun is such a matter-of-fact answer to a writer.

How’s that for a stream of the conscious.

  1. “Wildly picking up children along the way” is my blog. I don’t get lots of time on it because as the title suggests, I keep adding to my collection of children. When I was ten, I used to collect stickers. Now it seems I’m trying for the same number goal in children. I am currently pregnant with what will be our sixth child, not counting the other children in our lives that call us mom and dad. There are several and they do tend to stay at our house for days. But the permenant resident children are a combination of yours, mine, ours and someone else’s. It’s fun, it’s crazy, and yes, people think we’re insane.

  2. Can’t wait to read your book! What type of book? Memoir? Novel?

  3. You go! I have plans to finish a first draft by the end of the year. About two thirds there.
