Run for Your Life

August is drawing to a close. Summer is fading into the sunset as the dark arrives earlier with every coming night. So with the last vestiges of hot summer nights, I decided to go for a run.

About six months ago, I was momentarily overcome by insanity and decided to sign up for the Disney Half Marathon. It’s Sunday. Continue reading

Guest Post: Husbands, Take Note

We’ve got a guest contributor today. Because I’m off cavorting about the Big Apple (see tweet stream for live coverage updates).

You may have heard of AuntJ – she’s oft mentioned round these parts. And these are her thoughts. Chocolate tips welcome. Continue reading

The Seven Deadly Sins of Motherhood (or why we’re all going to hell)

This is not a sponsored post. I just really like the wine. And sometimes it’s necessary.

Disclaimer: This is a blasphemous post. I know this. I am familiar with my catechism. But whether you devoutly attend mass every first Friday or worship at the altar of the great spaghetti monster, this is meant as humor. Please don’t send me angry hate mail telling me I’m going to hell. I already know this. That’s the point of this post. Continue reading

Found Nemo

Have you heard the news? Thirteen years after the original won an Academy Award for Best Animated Picture, the sequel to Finding Nemo is hitting the big screens (due out 2016).

Given the theatrics of the 2003 elementary age clownfish, one can only assume poor Marlon has one hell of a rebellious teenage fish. Or maybe Nemo is now a father of his own accord and karma is rearing its ugly head. “Come find me now, funny fish!” Continue reading

The Muppet Theory

There’s a new theory out there. One I think we can all relate to.

History has seen many famous psychologists: Descartes – the father of modern philosophy, Pavlov and his dogs, Maslow with his hierarchy of needs, Frued’s issues with his mother, identity-crisis Erikson, Jung and his introverted/extroverted personalities, Piaget’s studies of children, and now, Dahlia Lithwick.

The Mupppet Theory. Continue reading

Littering and… Littering and…

I’ve known for weeks now I was slated to be today’s featured writer on Studio30 Plus (an awesome social media site for writers – go check it out.)

“Would you like to be our featured writer on July 2?”

Absolutely! Of course! What an honor! I can’t wait to get my work out there for more to see! Networking! Community! Pretend I’m a real writer! Also, this will be a fantabulous excuse to procrastinate writing the next chapter of my book.

Wait. Now I have to write something. Continue reading

How to Tell You’re Raising Boys (of the toddler variety)

Disclaimer: I make no claims that the below apply solely to BoyParents. I’m sure these traits fit GirlParents too. However, I only have boys – so that’s how it’s getting labeled. Continue reading

Something Funny Happened on the Way Home

You think by making it through the day without a call saying the kids are hysterical that the first day in the Tiny Two’s class was a rousing success.

I showed up to the sandbox. The yard doody lady called out Search’s name. Five kids looked up. Because there are five Search’s in his class. Yes. He has one of those names. But to keep things interesting for the teachers, they all have unique spellings. (Joke’s on you, class roster!) Continue reading

Bad Mother (or How to Harness the Power of a Toddler)

My house is baby-proofed. It is not toddler proofed.

But the good news is there doesn’t seem to be any lasting harmful effects from Monday’s baby breaking incident. (Seriously folks, thank you so much to all of you who shared your own baby dropping stories. It truly made me feel less inept.)

Both boys are back to warp speed in a determination to live up to their names – Search and Destroy. Continue reading

Furiously Happy: The Bloggess Book Signing

The day I post my review of Fragile Beginnings and I’m heading up north of THE CITY for a book reading and signing of “Let’s Pretend This Never Happened” by The Bloggess herself, Jenny Lawson.

Nerd alert!

That’s right. I got to meet The Bloggess. In person. And listen to her speak. Her New York and LA stops resulted in sold out books and standing room only crowds – so we took no chances and got there early. And also I was navigator in the car, so we had to leave early since it was assumed I would get us lost. (GPS: “Re-calculating. You. Moron.) Continue reading
