Merry Christmas. Some Assembly Required.

Christmas 2011 has come and gone. Hurricane Muppet is in full force. This is a long blog. I know this. I recommend some coffee. Go ahead, I’ll wait.

We woke up at 7 a.m. (letting Mommy sleep far later than the Christmas mornings of her childhood) and descended the steep not-to-code stairs. Jon had brewed a pot of coffee for Grandma Nancy – of which I greedily availed myself to as well. As we gathered caffeine cups and black Hefty bags for wrapping paper containment, I truly felt like a parent for the first time. Continue reading

Christmas 2011

I can’t wait to tell you all about the muppets big day, but Santa brought Mommy an early night’s sleep.

Sending my love to you and yours – be you right next door or across the globe. These interwebs are an amazing thing… Continue reading

Twas the Night Before Christmas

‘Twas the night before Christmas and all through our house
the only creature left stirring was me with my mouse.

The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,
In hopes that St Nicholas soon would be there.

The muppets were nestled all snug in their cribs,
While I came up with these clever ad-libs.

“Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good-night!”

The Bell Still Rings For Me

I no longer lie awake at night listening for hoof-prints on the roof or the hissing steam and squeaking metal of the Polar Express. I’ve given up searching for a sleigh through a child’s eye.

Seasons change. Traditions evolve. We all grow up. For me, Christmas remains one of my favorite times of year – the spirit and memories of my childhood remain, tucked tightly into the bright white lights lining my tree. Continue reading

The Live Tweeting of Santa Claus

Today was the big day to meet the big man. The muppets and I went to visit Santa. At the mall. The Saturday before Christmas.

I’m a sucker for tradition, and I’ve been striving to create our own Stream family traditions around the holidays. And who wouldn’t want an annual screaming at Santa photo to pull out when your sons become teenagers. Besides, last year Search puked all over the floor of the Macy’s Believe special section as Santa handed back a screaming muppet. Continue reading

Dear Santa, I Can Explain…

Dear Santa,

Look, I’m sorry I took your name in vain. (That is you I’m supposed to avoid doing that with, right?) Anyway, this isn’t even a real blog post. This is a Monday. Continue reading

It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas

Rainbow colored icicle lights line the frame of our house. Two brightly LED-lit penguins frolic among the fallen autumn leaves in the front yard. Visitors are welcomed with a large Costco acquired plastic pine wreath affixed beside the front door.

Inside, an 8-foot fir tree stands gated, draped with silver garlands and brilliant white lights. Family ornaments hang from the top quarter of branches. Continue reading
