Updated: The Writer’s Collaborative

I like to think of myself somewhat as a humor blogger. You know – the highlights of the headaches and hilarity involved in raising tiny twins.

This got me thinking.

Many of my featured pieces are decidedly less than humorous.

On Friday I was perusing the Twitter when I discovered that the Huffington Post had named my XO Jane essay one of the best parenting blogs of the week. In August I’m heading to New York for BlogHer – where my post This is Prematurity is a Voices of the Year honoree.

Yesterday I had the privilege of being the featured writer on Studio 30 Plus. That piece was decidedly snarky. (I may have been more than a little disgruntled at the solicitor who rang the doorbell, setting off the dogs who then woke up my terrible-twoing toddlers.)

Naturally I feel that comedy gets far less respect than deep heart-wrenching drama. (That’s right – I’m looking at you Academy Awards.) But let’s be honest. You’ve got to find the humor in the situation.

And then write about it.

I’d head to work with the writing collaborative each morning. I’m envisioning a loft type set up. Wood floors and an open layout – with blue couches.

Our little group (like the awesome folks over at A Nervous Tic Motion) would gather to drink great coffee. We’ll discuss current events. Ok fine, we’d bitch about them. (This would be the extent of our “meetings.” Then we’d scurry off to write snarky commentary.

Each writer would spend time responding to the slew of comments on recent posts. Because comments are totally blogger crack and our crew are total junkies. As such, we’d then spend several hours of the morning reading other blogs and commenting as appropriate.

Our loft would also have a row of offices. When inspiration strikes, anyone can lock themselves away – to focus on a chapter of a novel, or to write the latest installment of a loved ones biography. Because life’s tales need to be remembered. And retold.

It will be glorious.

We will be real writers. We will be storytellers.

And when necessary, we can nap on those blue couches.

Who’s with me?!

Update: Auntie Beeca has named our collaborative. Welcome to Writers Block.

Like it – and love the idea of the recycle on the porch – I may try it!

  2. I’m with you! Congratulations on the Huff Post & Voices of the Year honors! GO YOU!
