Barenaked Ladies

I was quite the rebel last night. I went out. On a school night! Because Barenaked Ladies make any evening better.

For those of you questioning the repeated barenaked mentions in this post so far – they are a band. My favorite band, to be more specific. And last night, I headed for the hills to see them perform live. On a Monday! Look at me living large!

I discovered the band in college. During my freshman year, I was walking down a San Francisco street when a group of guys called out, “Hey – want to come to our show tonight?” Turns out – they were five fully clothed guys who sang in a band.

Pinch Me

One of my floormates lent me a CD – Stunt. I played it for one week straight. Irony, no? Luckily, Auntie Beeeca didn’t rip the stereo from the wall and smash it over my head. (Yeah, I’m that girl – I’ll listen to an album repeatedly before I get my fill. I like to think this was excellent practice for motherhood. Yet, I can still only take about seven repetitions of “Where’s Spot” before I start begging the toddler for another option.)

During the fall of my junior year of college I went to my first concert ever – Barenaked Ladies. Auntie Beeeca took me. (This is why we love her, kids…Granted she may just have wanted me to play a new album.)

It was the first concert I ever attended. I’ve seen them live several times over – from the summer after my junior year when a friend and I decided to crash a concert on a whim to anniversary gifts from my fantabulous husband.

There is something magical about being with friends in a small intimate arena encompassed by your favorite music. Guitars, bases and banjos. Makes me wish I had stuck with the piano.

Boys – if you’re reading this. Don’t quit. Girls think musicians are awesome. (And we love Barenaked Ladies.)
